330-Rule, Curriculum Development and Improvement

Policy Number: 330-Rule


The following steps must be taken for curriculum/course development or significant change:
1.   Curriculum changes may be initiated by any one (1) of the following by November 1:
a.  District Administrator
b.  Building administrator
c.  Director of Instructional Services
d.  Curriculum advisory chairpersons
(Curriculum advisory committee is made up of school board
members and selected teachers)
e.  Individual teachers
2.  All teachers and administrators affected and/or involved in 4K through grade
twelve (12) must be notified of any intent to change and be invited to participate
in any/all change procedures, even if they are not on the curriculum
committee/department as posted.
3.  The Director of Instructional Services must also be notified regarding the
intended change, along with the participants of the curriculum
committee/department, and be kept notified of all meetings at least one (1) week
in advance.
4.  It is the responsibility of the Director of Instructional Services to study the
proposed change and make recommendations to the administrators.
5.  It is the responsibility of the Director of Instructional Services to assist as
needed and to keep curriculum chairpersons informed as to content and format
necessary in curriculum documents.
6.  Changes that meet the consensus of the committee shall be typed in final form
and forwarded through the following for notification and approval:
a.    Director of Instructional Services
b.    Curriculum Advisory Committee
c.    Building administrator(s)
d.    District Administrator
e.    Board of Education of the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau School
District
7.  Curriculum will be kept current and posted on the internet.
8.  In the event the administration feels that a curriculum change is not recognized
by the department, it will retain the prerogative to institute that change through
the leadership of the department head and the curriculum
committee/department.
